I want my damn...

house back. When did our home become the rehab haven for all things safety?  The other day I was on a baking/cooking  mission - I whipped up some pretty awesome brownies, banana nut bread and I had just started a homemade sauce for some Pappardalle. During the time I was in the kitchen I swear I had to lock and unlock my baking/ingredients drawer about 50 times which when you are as fast as I am in the kitchen this takes up precious time and will eventually get annoying. I have become MacGyver in order to make sure my little one does not get to the baking drawer finds the flour and decides to play snow day on my kitchen floor. Also with LDG's growth spurt she is now able to reach the burners on the stove which scares the crap out of me!

I am also being held prisoner by not 1 but 4.....4 baby gates on each level of the house including the sunken living room. Let's just say that our casa is not the most kid friendly.  When we bought it 4 1/2 years ago it was more of .....We are going to party/travel/work for the rest of our lives this is the kinda house we need  - not the holy shit I just got  pregnant at 40 we are about to have a kid kinda of house...So I am always on the look out for tumbling baby....Before LDG I was always on the look out for tumbling drunk friends....Ahhhh how things change in just a short period of time.  Okkk...and how many times have I had to pee so bad.....cannot figure out how those stupid knob locks ......work quick enough....OK.... TMI I guess I just needed to get that off my chest!

It amazes me what we do in order to keep our children safe and away from danger. I swear I do not remember having all of these things when growing up and I turned out just fine.  My hubby still thinks the verdict is out on that one.....

Happy Saturday

You can call me a bad mother if you want. I don't think I am but I haven't baby proofed my house yet and my little one is 16 months old.

The door to the basement closes and although D can reach the handle she can't turn it. So far she hasn't gone near the stairs going up. She crawls up them each night to go to bed but I'm right behind her.

I don't have a baby gate at the top of the stairs because she is never upstairs alone. And we close her bedroom door when she sleeps. Once shes starts sleeping in a big girl bed and gets out herself I will put a gate at the top of the stairs.

D is free to open all cabinets, stick her fingers in light sockets, bump her head on tables....She doesn't though. She opens the drawers underneath the bathroom sink which have lady products and makeup. Anything harmful to her her in the cabinets ABOVE the washer/dryer.

I say you start taking control of your house. Take the drawer locker things off. If she tries to open it just tell her "NO". She will eventually learn!

So not a bad mother! I am about to start taking some of the locks things off the cabinets the only one I am keeping on is the one with all the cleaning supplies. Oh we have had fun with the lady products!

Following you back! Also, I know exactly how you feel about child locks taking over! I don't have any kids but I have a lovely lab who LOVES to rip through the trash. He knows how to open up the cabinets...
To keep him out, we've had to install child proof locks on the cabinet where he can pull the trash can out. It's so annoying to have to stop and unlock it to throw something away when cooking/baking!

LOL thank God I am not the only one going through this. You have one up on me though, I can't seem to undo our safety locks (I am safety lock challenged) so I actually have to have someone help me most of the time. Otherwise no cooking would get done.

I feel your pain, I really do! I don't know why I even have done it. I grew up without all of it and well minus sanity, I do still have all my appendages.

I will be honest though the toilet seat lock HAD to go! I could not deal with it during the day and especially did not enjoy it at night. Did you know even a screwdriver will not dislodge those things. So after a few nights of "Honey, I need to use the bathroom. Wake up and get that thing off the lid." We got rid of it

I know it's crazy what we do isn't it. I still have a safety lock for my hutch that I can't even get off. I had to cut one eventually..lol! Newest follower from Super Stalker Sunday.

Oh I love your blog!! And I totally get having everything locked up and secure and looking terrible. At least now my daughter is 5 so it's not nearly as bad as it was. I still keep the liquor cabinet locked and I expect that's something that will require more security as she gets older Lol!

Happy Sunday! I'm following you too!

I must say i look forward to reading your posts. I find them so refreshing.

My daughter just turned five and she is picking up the habit of wanting to look at items in various aisles by herself. Just the idea freaks me out. I don't want her out of my sight even for a second.

I can imagine how you must have felt.
